Surkhet's Bulbule Lake Sees Tourism Boost Following Motorboat Launch

Surkhet, Karnali Province - Bulbule Lake, a prominent natural spring and tourist destination in Birendranagar, is experiencing a surge in visitor numbers following the introduction of motorboat operations. The initiative, launched by a private company with support from the provincial and local governments, has been hailed as a significant step in boosting tourism and economic activity in the Karnali region.

The lake, famous for the natural bubbling (bul-bule) of its spring water and immortalized in a classic Nepali folk song, has traditionally been a popular spot for picnics and a scenic retreat. However, the addition of the motorboats has significantly enhanced its appeal, drawing both domestic and international tourists.

Development and Future Plans

The launch of the motorboat service is part of broader conservation and development efforts. For instance, Birendranagar Municipality has been carrying out a major restoration project to address issues like water leakage and structural damage at the lake's main spring, while preserving its original shape.

Future development plans include:

  • Expansion: Projects are underway to significantly expand the pond's area.

  • Infrastructure: Construction of picnic spots, systematic gardens, and better facilities.

  • Connectivity: Plans for a suspension bridge over the Itram rivulet to ease access to the picnic area.

Local officials are optimistic that these developments will cement Bulbule Lake's status as a key tourist attraction in the region, providing a notable stopover for travelers heading to other Karnali destinations like Rara Lake.
